A little, do it your self(DIY)! I bought the jean jacket for 6 bucks at a used clothing store, and cut the sleeves off of it. Then I took clear nail polish and put it on the ends where I cut them, (which prevents it from fraying.) I also put it on the ends of the two patches, and will be putting more on after I put on a third patch. The studs and patch actually took me about a day to put on. The two types I put on was a regular 1/2 cone and a pyramid stud. I took the plaid material from a pair of pants that didn't fit me anymore and glued it on. It takes a Village That's a phrase that means that families can raise their children with the help of enough other people in a safe environment and benefit from the behavior that a child can copy if they are regularly exposed to a wider range of people and activities. Kids can experience the basics of life that way. They see where the necessities come from, how people socialize, notice new comers because they are unfamiliar, watch grown ups interact, and maybe be entertained by a shopping spree or a seasonal parade where some traditional cultural events shape the day. In short they don't have to be taught how to act by just mom or dad ...there are enough examples of common behavior so the learning happens naturally. And what does a village need? If we know what it takes, so to speak, what does it need? Well, a gathering place where enough people, say a hundred or so, are more important than cars. A meeting hall where most of the people in the room got there by walking less than five minutes from their homes. A place to sit and feeling you belong. Then people watching and keeping in touch with the passing scene. When you actually have a park ,well that's getting to be a more like a town and when there isn't even a small green space to gather in well, that's kind of more like a hamlet. There's a story that in the late 1800's there was a green created near the edge of towns in England ... meaning a place to graze the horses or have livestock gather. There was no democracy up to that point. This was because farmers and in the old days most people were from outside of the core population, there was no way to really have a collective point of view as citizens. It was the village green in the revolutionary war that amassed the public for action. The same is true for the marketplace. You know, the one where farmers and trades people set up a booth or a wagon, or a rack of used clothing, and there were enough of them to cause the wagons to go to the next block. People above transport. That's village life to me.

5/15/08: Shop till you drop, recycle used clothing, socialize over cocktails AND raise money for a women's charity? Sounds too good to be true, right? Actually, it's the 7th Annual Clothes Exchange. In 2008, The Clothes Exchange was attended by over 450 women and together with local sponsors, they raised $30,000 for The Hicks Foundation. Not bad for an event that began 7 years ago in the living room of event organizer, Leslie Halperin. Allison Hicks, the founder of the organization was on hand to educate women about the dangers of cervical cancer which, if screened for with yearly Pap smears, is 100% preventable. If any of you all live in Omaha, try the Chico's used clothing store! Its SOO much chieper than Target, which is kinda expencive! Compared to Nordstrom, Target is SOOO much, so Chicos has it all for under 10$ They have Walmart, Kmart, Target and recycled clothing! they also have other thrift store stuff, for SOO much chepaer!

Christians Join Hands to Help People in Need. Appalachian Outreach began in 1984 as a home repair ministry for poverty level people, by the Campus Ministries Department of Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, Tennessee. Since then Appalachian Outreach has expanded its ministries to include a homeless shelter called Samaritan House, a food distribution ministry, a used clothing and furniture ministry, a computer and GED educational program, a ministry to Hispanic people, the Second Source Thrift Store, a recycling program, Christian nurturing and counseling. The Appalachian Outreach Ministries Center is located at 190 Old Andrew Johnson Highway, across from the city park.

By partnering with Matthew 25: Ministries, each year thousands of clean clothing are donated to children across the world. Thus far, over 500,000 articles have been donated. Cintas has a goal to increase the number of clothing items by 5,000 every year. Customer Review: This is a very good book if you're looking for answers to questions like "why is it that turtlenecks look great on her, but not on me?" or "why do I look like a sack of potatoes in this dress?". The great strength of this book is the emphasis on dressing for one's body type. Other "what to/not to wear" titles and shows often neglect to talk about *why* certain garments look bad on certain shapes. Trinny and Suze both explain and show you why. This information is especially useful for plus sized women as it often flies in the face of the shape/style of garments you will find on the racks at stores and in the collections of even exclusively plus-sized lines, thereby saving you from a purchase that "never looks right" when you wear it. I especially found the section on "short necks" to be helpful and surprisingly perceptive. Who would have thought a badly clad neck could be so problematic? And yet it makes a huge difference.
That said, I think, in general, the smaller one is, the more of Trinny and Suze's "rules" one can break without looking terrible, whereas the bigger one is, the more one benefits by following them.
Beyond the question of size and effectiveness of their advice, the downside of the book is that some of the outfits are just plain awful, which distracts and detracts from the lesson of shape appropriate dressing. Also, some of the posing, which features frowning and grimacing, unfairly skews the readers interpretation of the aesthetics of the fit and shape of a garment.
For the well-schooled fashionista, this book may not add much to her knowledge. It is not about building a wardrobe, judging quality of garments, or even how to put an outfit together, really. Check it out first before purchase.

Customer Review: I purchased this book a while back because of its marvelous cover. I had also read the reviews and they were good. Thus, I expected the story to be as good as the cover but, boy, was I in for a let down! This is definitely not a humorous chick lit, like Jemima J., Shopaholic, or Bridget Jones. This story has a good premise but the writing is dull and mostly unhumorous. I can literally count the funny parts on one hand. I cannot give credit for its depth either, since it lacked complexity. The book started to drag around the middle and I started and finished two other books before I finally sucked it up and finished this one.

Customer Review: As I read this book, I found myself wondering why it was still in print in 2008. It features creaky old rules such as "never wear trousers to the office, because women in higher management only wear skirts." This was sound advice fifteen years ago, but today? Hardly. This book uses a twelve-season system of color analysis instead of Carole Jackson's original four season system. It promises to be more personalized, and yet somehow, it isn't. It limits the colors you are "allowed" to wear to a certain depth and hue. For example, if you are a Deep Winter like me, you have. to. wear. deep. dark. colors. all. the. darned. time. Oh, and red or burgundy lipstick, too! No pink for you! [Cue the slap of a soup ladle] Even the lighter "neutrals" must be paired with black or what have you. The original Color Me Beautiful Winter palette features a range of colors, from black and navy to light, icy colors and many shades in between. I will say this for "Looking Your Best": It shows color swatches of make-up shades, which are very helpful to someone like me, who doesn't have the slightest idea what "smoked teal" or "greyed plum" is. I also didn't mind the color swatches that looked like they were done with crayons. No, they weren't extremely clear, but you do get the idea. Still, this doesn't quite compensate for the book's shortcomings, the worst of which is when the authors proclaim that no non-Caucasian woman can be a Spring or Summer. That's so wrong that it's not even wrong. Yes, they certainly can, and they are! Verdict: Stick with Carole Jackson. Her 1980 book "Color Me Beautiful" manages, despite its oh-so-80's illustrations, to be timeless.

Customer Review: I'd go so far, in fact, as to say that if you don't have _20,000 Years of Fashion_ in your library, or if you don't have ready access to a library that has this book, your credentials as a serious student of fashion would have to be called somewhat into question. This massive 440-page-plus tome could serve as a college text in costume history; and I make no doubt that, at some schools, it has filled just that role. Do bear in mind that this book covers fashion only up to about 1965 (that, however, may be no great hardship to those who believe that there hasn't really been any great couture since the last time Hubert de Givenchy designed something for Audrey Hepburn :) ). There is a truly staggering amount of illustrations in the book - over 1100, of which some 350 are full-color - and the array includes reproductions of many famous paintings and other artworks showcasing especially notable costumes. Every item of costume and couture is covered in detail, from head (hats) to feet (shoes) and in between. In contrast to some other pictorial works of fashion I've reviewed, there is a very extensive and detailed text, though, as another reviewer has noted, it was originally written in French and has been translated to English, with the possible loss of some nuances and idioms in the process.
Overall, I repeat my initial judgment: this is a mandatory item for anyone seriously interested in the history of costume to have in their library.

Customer Review: I checked this book out from my local library and now plan to buy it. The chapters about recognizing "quality" in materials and construction are so useful and well written. In fact, I went out today as the book recommended and "inspected" suits, blouses and pants at several different vintage/consignment stores using the suggestions in the book. And wouldn't you know it--I struck GOLD in the form of a Rena Lange tweed suit for $37. I'll never get duped into purchasing a poorly made garment again (and for that matter, I may never pay retail again either!).
