Metal Gear Solid 4 Tribute
by rss@youtube.com (Murdermanz)
19 Aug 2008 at 3:03am

******POTENTIAL SPOILERS FOR SOME****** You've been warned. Honours for this video: (First Ever Wooo!) 19th Of August: #92 - Most Discussed (Today) - Gaming - United Kingdom #21 - Top Favorites (Today) - Gaming - United Kingdom #20 - Top Favorites (Today) - Gaming - United Kingdom Yay! Finally got it uploaded lol. For me personally, this is proberbly the best video i've made. Then again it should be with the amount of time I spent on it. I'm sure most of you proberbly saw this coming but meh, i'm proud of it. The video............ sort of has its own story, as I was making it. I made every scene link to the before and after it. Then watching the whole thing back, I sort of...... saw a story in it. I dunno if you will or did but I sure as Hell did lol. Towards the end of the video though, I started to lose my focus and the video, I think lost something the first half had. But I dunno. If i'd of has longer than ten minutes then I proberbly would have done a slightly better job, some parts I had to cut out to make the vid fit the time limit which kinda sucks. But, it came out pretty awesome in my eyes. The clips were all downloaded, which then had to be converted. The conversion though, screwed up all the sound. Thats why I left the audio out in every part except a few which you will see. That annoyed me, but, it still came out pretty well. The video would have been done earlier but a mix of not being able to find music, holiday, WMM crashing, eating and PS3 all played a part in delaying it. But hey, its up now and i'm damn proud of it. Hope you all enjoy it, rate, comment and please give me some feedback on it. I'd really appreciate it. Oh, if you want to give some critisism then go ahead but make it CONSTRUCTIVE. Not just 'THIS IS CRAP' or ' THIS IS GAY' thanks. Thank you all for watching, please feel free to subscribe or add me as a friend! Music in order of appearance: Love Theme - Metal Gear Solid 4 OST Old Snake - Metal Gear Solid 4 OST Metal Gear Saga - Metal Gear Solid Collection Father & Son - Metal Gear Solid 4 OST P.S This is my Surprise video in case you didn't realise xD. Cheers everyone!

A White Flower Rots and Decays (Part 1)
by rss@youtube.com (daydreamingprincess)
16 Aug 2008 at 4:21am

This is basically a prologue to a story I've had developing in my mind for years now, called 'The World Betwixt and Between'. However, I am not much of an author and I don't think I am able write it down, but it's a story I'd really like to tell someday :) So, I thought I would make a movie of the prologue, by drawing pictures and adding a little music and sound effects and subtitles to it, to try and turn it into a movie! :D Unfortunately I'm not much of an artist either, so the pictures are drawn really badly XD Anyways I hope you'll be able to make out what's going on and enjoy the story :) This took me overall about...4 weeks to make, so...yeah hope you enjoy it! :P For some of the dialogue, I had to widen the pictures so that it'd fit in the frame, meaning that some of the drawings will have a white background around them. For some reason I either forgot to do this to some pictures or saved it without checking through them all carefully, so some dialogue does run into the black frame on some pictures. Hopefully it doesn't matter that much though :P --------------------------------------- Ok, so here's the basic storyline just in case you can't make out what's going on in the pictures :P It is midnight on Kavina Island, and the islanders are speaking out a prayer to the Moon Goddess on the night of a full moon. Whilst they break into celebration, a mysterious hooded man walks into one of the villages, and unmercifully begins to slaughter everyone he sees before him. After finishing his way through the four villages on the island as well as burning down all the houses and the forests, he makes his way to Kavina Castle, and begins slaughtering everyone in there too. A maid named Valerie goes upstairs to warn the princess of the kingdom. The heavily pregnant Princess Kianna meanwhile is sitting by her dressing table, gazing at a white flower she keeps in a vase, and she wonders to herself where a certain someone with the name 'Delano' is. As she sits there daydreaming, Valerie barges into her room and warns her of the hooded murderer. At first, Kianna doesn't believe a word of it, but as she looks out through her window out to her island, she realises it is true. The hooded man who is outside in the meantime, notices her looking out, and smiles. Kianna turns back horrifyingly. She seems to recognise the man's eyes. As she breaks down in despair, her lover (and cousin) Renaldo enters and tells Kianna to flee the castle through the left wing while he goes to find their parents, and that he'll meet her in the entrance hall. When he leaves, Kianna grabs a pair of chakrams from underneath her bed to defend them, and she and Valerie start making their way to the entrance hall. --------------------------------------- Credits: I used several pieces of music from the many weird and wonderful soundtrack I own, mainly movie and video game soundtracks :P (Agh I'm such a geek! :S) Here are all the songs I have used in order of when they are played. Unfortunately as the movie progressed, particularly during the last few scenes, I was running out of ideas (and songs) for music, and it actually took me a good few hours to find music which would fit, and then edit it into the movie successfully so the music would sound well with the clips and alongside the other music. I think it sort of does, though obviously they're all from different soundtracks, so the music does sound rather jumbled up and odd at times XD Note: You may notice I have taken tunes from Kingdom Hearts, purely because I love kingdom hearts and the music fitted in well, and I have also used many Harry Potter themes and tunes taken from the films and the games! (Yeah I'm a Harry Potter geek, and proud of it :D) 0:00-0:46 Nightingale -- Yanni (Tribute) 0:48-1:20 Random accordion song I downloaded, but I'm afraid I have no idea what it's called! :( 1:29-1:46 Apparition on the Train -- John Williams (HP&TPOA film) 1:51-4:04 The Dark Mark -- Patrick Doyle (HP&TGOF film) 4:25-4:40 Apprehension -- Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts II) 4:59-5:40 An Undertaking - Ayako Saso, Shinji Hosoe, Kenji Kawai, Hiroto Saitoh (Folkssoul Original Soundtrack) 5:41-5:46 Crashed into the Whomping Willow -- Jeremy Soule (HP&TCOS video game) 5:57-6:31 Padmé's Ruminations -- John Williams (Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith) 6:34-7:05 Strange Whispers -- Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts I) 7:06-8:40 Hogwarts at Night -- Jeremy Soule (HP&TCOS video game) Sound effects were from : http://www.sound-effect.com/ The screaming background sounds I recorded from the movie Van Helsing :P

However, he does not attack them. Seeing their chance, Kianna attacks him, and as the man crouches down in pain from the wound, she and Valerie escape to the entrance hall. They wait for Renaldo and their parents, but they do not come, and so Valerie volunteers to go up there and look for them herself, but the hooded man arrives in the entrance hall and kills her before she can. Kianna flees the castle in tears, and the hooded man pursues her. Princess Kianna makes her way to a holy place on the island, yet as she kneels down in prayer, the hooded man reaches up to her, and greets her. She asks him to tell her who he is, and he reveals himself to be none other than her old lover, Delano, who left her many months ago when he went on a quest to search for the meaning of his life. While he explains to her of his journey and she stands their listening to him in numb disbelief, Renaldo (who has not been killed) arrives on the scene, and confronts Delano. --------------------------------------- Credits: I used several pieces of music from the many weird and wonderful soundtrack I own, mainly movie and video game soundtracks :P (Agh I'm such a geek! :S) Here are all the songs I have used in order of when they are played. 3rd and final part. This is basically a prologue to a story I've had developing in my mind for years now, called 'The World Betwixt and Between'. As Princess Kianna weeps by Renaldo's side, Delano demands Kianna to explain her relationship with Renaldo. She does, as well as telling him she can see that Delano is not the same man because of the darkness that has invaded his soul. Delano realises that she no longer loves him, and tells her to leave before he kills her and her baby. As she leaves, Delano loses all the love and goodness that was once inside him. All of a sudden, a mysterious beam of darkness shoots from seemingly out of nowhere from outer space, leads its way down to Earth towards Delano, and plunges into his soul, filling his soul with darkness. While he screams in agony with Kianna looking back in horror, the flower lying on Kianna's bedroom floor which Delano gave to Kianna long ago back when they were in love, rots and decays. --------------------------------------- Credits: I used several pieces of music from the many weird and wonderful soundtrack I own, mainly movie and video game soundtracks :P (Agh I'm such a geek! :S) Here are all the songs I have used in order of when they are played. He's Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys
by Greg Behrendt, Liz Tuccillo
Amazon Price:
Customer Review: So, this book isn't really bad , but it is common sense. We girls keep making excuses for the man when deep down we known what's going on. We just don't want to say it or belive it. The book basically says the same thing over and over in every chapter just different situations. Basically if the guy doesn't treat you like a princess then " he is just not into you!" That doesn't take a whoe book to say but and here is where credit is due; if you are hard headed and in one of these relationships maybe reading the whole book is what you need.

The Hobbit
by J.R.R. Tolkien
Amazon Price: $7.99
Customer Review: lighthearted wonderful read. pick it up if you want to be transported to a mystical world with rich and engaging characters and plot.

Chronicles, Volume 1
by Bob Dylan
Amazon Price: $16.32
Customer Review: This is a very enjoyable and most importantly, readable book. Who would have thought Dylan could write so well, be such a good story teller in straight forward language? After spending years listening to his lyrics I have to admit that I was surprised by how well this is written. Surely songwriting and penning an autobiography are very different arts, but Dylan does it. Apparently sans the ghost writer.

This book is full of the early years in NY, sleeping in other peoples places, working his way into the in-crowd, meeting his hero, Woody Guthrie. Be sure to pick up this gem as well! Bound for Glory (Penguin Modern Classics) Great stuff. He does get a little off-track with the making of a particular LP, "Oh Mercy" but works his way back round to the before time.

Was he really asked to join Peter, Paul and Mary?
We got a look at girlfriend Suzy that appeared on an album cover, very interesting.
And between the lines you can sense the pressure of being the spokesman for a generation.

Discovering Home with Laurie Smith: Find Your Personal Style
by Laurie Smith
Amazon Price: $13.57
Customer Review: The photos of her home are beautiful but this read more like a remodeling diary of Ms. Smith's own domain. Many of the pictures are repeated over and over again. Clearing exploiting her fan base here and basically a vanity project.

The Jungle (Bantam Classics)
by Upton Sinclair
Amazon Price: $5.95
Customer Review: This novel does a wonderful job of painting scenes from the daily life of a family of Lithuanian immigrant workers in the early 1900s. Sinclair produces memorable characters and captures the spirt of the times well. However, it is not a great novel from a purely literary perspective due to its lack of depth and rather uneventful plot. This novel carved out its niche in history by exposing the unsanitary conditions of the meat packing industry of the day. Many credit this novel with setting in motion the wheels that ulitmately led to the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906. This is a book that is worth reading because of its historical impact, but it is does not contain the ingredients of a literary masterpiece.

Public Domain, The: How to Find and Use Copyright Free Writings, Music, Art &...
by Stephen Fishman
Amazon Price: $23.09
Customer Review: What a great book! Fishman's book gives a comprehensive overview of a subject only one in a thousand knows anything about. The Public Domain.

The public domain consists of art, music, literature, software, etc. that belongs to no one and can be repurposed by anyone for other use.

If you and your community group wanted to stage a musical version of Tom Sawyer set in the year 2502, you can do this very easily as Tom Sawyer (and all of Mark Twain's works) are in the public domain. There are no licensing fees.

Fishman gives you a methodology for finding and locating works and for understanding how to track them down and protect yourself should someone want to press a claim against (most likely spurious)

Highly recommended.

Cheers!

The Electric Guitar Sourcebook: How to Find the Sounds You Like
by Dave Hunter
Amazon Price: $16.47
Customer Review: There's hardly anything new in Dave Hunter's book, still it's a pretty good overview and compilation of info that you otherwise would have to seek in several different publications. He describes the characteristics of different styles of electric guitars and goes into detail how these affect their tone and playability. Tone woods, construction, type of finish, pickups and electronics and other factors are mentioned, some in great detail and why and how they work together. After an initial chapter on the main ingredients that go into designing and building an electric, the other chapters are dedicated to different model families (bolt-on solid body, set neck solid body etc.), how they have been developed by their designers and respective companies and what is responsible for their unique sounds. Some details that can be crucial to a guitar's tone are missing here, like the effect that different pots, caps or hardware parts can have and I'd wish they would have been covered more extensively. I have also detected a couple of factual errors that should be corrected in a future issue. The neck of a Gibson ES 335 joins the body at the 19th fret, not the 20th, a Les Paul is made with a tenon neck joint, not with a dovetail, like in acoustic guitar construction and that a 1953 Gibson ES 175 is supposed to have a 3-piece maple neck is very very questionable among experts.
Other than that, if you don't have many books on the history and construction of electric guitars or never can have enough of them (like me), this is a good read and reference.
