I arrive in Vermont in prime blackberry season. I don't know if the patches produce abundance like this every year, or if anyone else here cares to pick them, but I feel like I've hit the jackpot. I go out with my tupperware in the early morning to berry-pick, a kind of hunt. I stand at the edge of the woods, where a blackberry runner invites me, waving a few glistening purple-black berries my way. I pick those. Plunk! they go in my tupperware. Then I see, deeper in the patch, a much bigger runner laden with scores more - bigger - berries. I climb in over fern and goldenrod to carefully strip them into my tupperware. Plunk, plunk. There I see, deeper in - an entire cache, a panorama of weighed, graceful arches of huge shamelessly shiny fruits, dozens of orb-eyes per berry: each a world, a camera lense I can see my reflection in. Slowly I work my way in; I thoroughly denude the scene. And there I see, low on the ground, barely visible in the undergrowth, stealth blackberries runners along the forest floor, with berries so big they can't be round - trembling, oblong monstrosities, queen bees of blackberries, fatly falling off the stem at the slightest touch. It's no good to look for them. I stand there and I see something in my side-vision (then, how could I miss it?) which leads me deeper and deeper in. How can one year and one edge of forest produce this many blackberries? Tupperware after tupperware, jars and jars of jam. But it's not free. The mosquitoes find me in my delicate maneuvers to reach the topmost branches. And the briars - cunning thorned tentacles, take their due in skin and blood; on every surface I'm raked, poked, pricked, stabbed. So I give this recompense, with sweat, thanks and praise pouring out of me. And lastly, I pay in risk, however slight. There is always the chance that someday, engrossed in my task, I will look up and see eyes looking at me. I will realize I am not the only berry-picker today. Maybe I've already been seen. This is exactly the currency I am most willing to pay.

(Julia's P.O.V) "Julia, Stephanie and Nicole where.." Nick started. Then he hesitated more tears coming to his eyes. "They were kidnapped." Then he started crying on his pillow. I all of the sudden felt dizzy. I ran back out to where Joe was trying to calm Kevin. "Its not true it it?!" I yelled. "My sister and my best friend weren't......they weren't kidnapped where they!?" Kevin stayed silently blubbering on the couch and Joe came to me. He wrapped his arms around me. "Julia they were. It happened this morning. While we were asleep." I started crying hard on his shoulder. My arms were around his waist and his arms where around my upper stomach. "It was all my fault!" I said quickly. "If I hadn't suggested going to the amusment park this wouldn't have happened." I kept on crying, Joe's eyes getting glassy. "No Julia." Kevin said standing up. "It's not your fault. It is Joe's fault for touching the fricken wall.......and mine and Stephanies for not telling you about the note." He looked like a wreck but he still was able to talk with a such steadyness that if you where on the phone with him, You would think he was perfectly happy. His voice never quivered. "Note!? What note!?" Joe yelled turning around. One arm was still around me. I straightened up to hear Kevin's explination. "Stephanie got a note threatening you three telling you guys to stay away from us...the Jonas Brothers." I winced at the thought of having a threatening letter sent to me. Now I knew why he wanted us to keep our dates a secret. "ANd you decided not to tell us about this!?!?!?" Joe screamed at him. "IT WAS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!" Kevin screamed back. "MY OWN GOOD!?!? Well then why are Stephanie and Nicole KIDNAPPED!?!?!?" Joe yelled back. "BECAUSE YOU WHERE STUPID ENOUGH TO TRY TO TOUCH THE GOD DAMN WALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Kevin screamed back stepping up to Joe so that they where face to face. "Stop fighting." A quivery voice said from behind me. I turned to see Nick, puffy eyes Nick, standing in the door way. He walked up to the group and stepped between Joe and Kevin. "What happened happened. Putting blame on someone just makes matters worse. But if its anyone's fault that they were kidnapped, the fault was on the kidnappers." He said. I smiled to myself knowing that for now, there was a logical Jonas. Joe and Kevin mumbled sorrys to each other. But then from out the window there was a loud clank. Everyone ran to the window to see what was up. i decided to stay closer to the back in case what they saw was scary or dead bobdies which might have belonged to Stephanie and Nicole. "there's nothing there Joe said squinting through the window." But then I felt a cold hand over my mouth and another hand lift me from the waist. I tried to scream but no one heard me. His hand was pushing on my mouth that it felt like he was going to push my teeth in. We where halfway out the door by the time Joe turned around to find me. He looked at the door and saw me, bug eyed, and scared for my life. "Julia!!" he screamed. Then he stood up and ran out the door after us. The kidnapper pushed me into a white van where someone put a piece of tape over my mouth and tied up my hands and feet. The whole way I was crying for Joe. I turned to look out the back window and sure enough, Joe was chasing the car. "Take out the boy. My honey just wants Paul. Joseph doesn't mean much." A guy in the front was saying into a cell phone. While I was watching Joe, I all of the sudden saw a black car drive up behind him. I wanted to scream "Get out of the way Joe!" But the tape prevented from doing so. The car speed up and I closed my eyes. Then I heard from the front, the mans phone say, "Joseph Adam Jonas has been hit." I tried to squeeze in tears so I could listen tot he rest of the conversation. "Are you sure?" The man in the front seat snapped back. "I hit him myself sir. If you look back you'll know." I quickly looked back and saw Joe on the floor, most likely unconcious. Then from behind him another car showed up. It was Kevin and Nick. They stopped next to Joe and Kevin knelt down to try to help. He was ono his cell phone probably calling 911. nick was standing, crying. And he had reason to cry. I turned back around and a single tear slid down my face. Then we got to a building where they shoved me into a room. It was dark and they took off the tape and the ties. Then they hooked me up to some chains on the wall. THey left the room and some lights turned on. I squinted as my eyes adjusted. And in the corner, I saw Nicole and Stephanie. Both just waking up. Both had buldges all over their heads. "Julia!!" Nnicole yelled first. "Nicole its you!" I yelled back. Nicole stood up and I stood up to I walked over to her and she stumbled towards me. I hugged her and I loooked to my sister. "Alright you two know eachother. Care to introduce yourselves to me?" She said. We looked at her in awe. What happened to my sister!!??!? What's with Stephanie? Find out in Chapter 18!!

Just a quick update on some new toys. Also, couple of questions for all the commenters out there. Why does everyone seem so obsessed about the firearms? Just to educate everyone out there, YES!!!, in addition to Class I semi-auto firearms, full auto "machine guns" and sound suppressors are 100% legal and encouraged (by me)in the US if you live in a non-commie state that allows their possession and you have done the BATFE paperwork (called a FORM 4), paid the Transfer Tax and passed the background check and been fingerprinted and had your Chief Law Enforcement Officer sign off on you. Google it. There are thousands of videos on Youtube with people enjoying their Class II firearms. We are the most peaceful and law-abiding people on the planet. It's not a big deal. Just a VERY expensive hobby though. It's not about having an armory to fight off all of the zombies. It's just one of my hobbies. I like to collect, look at, learn about, and use firearms. They are actually the smallest part of any survival plan. Like someone said, "Try carrying them all!!" Also, everyone keeps saying "you're crazy for putting this online." Why? Do you really think my name is Egerton Y. Davis? OPSEC people, OPSEC! What the heck is the internet for if you can't communicate anonymously with like minded individuals about 100% completely lawful activity. "Holy S**T! Someone in America owns guns and has food, water, and hard currency!!! Game over. Game over, man!!!" Why don't you come and find me. Come on now. Where do you people come from? Just relax. This is not my life. This is just a very, very small part. I am a completely honorable and upstanding citizen.
