finally got some Alfred Apaka video! This is from the April 26, 1952 Bob Hope Show. Courtesy of the fine folks at bobontv.com -- go there to peruse the many tremendous Bob Hope shows available for purchase on DVD featuring many wonderful guests through the decades! The legendary Alfred Apaka, already hugely popular in Hawaii, was getting ready to make a big splash on nationwide TV in America just before he died at a tragically young age in 1960. His beautiful smooth baritone earned him the name "The Golden Voice of Hawaii". He presents perhaps the finest example of hapa-haole music. George Kanahele, in "Hawaiian Music and Musicians" writes that Apaka was: "possessor of the one of the most remarkable voices to come out of Hawaii. A natural untrained voice, it was strong, masculine and agile -- a delicate instrument that could range from B flat to E in pianissimo ... Apaka's stature has continued to grow and, thanks to his devoted fans who still pay homage to his memory, it has assumed legendary dimensions." Here is the Alfred Apaka entry at find-a-grave: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?GRid=6167292&page=gr Here is a fine Alfred Apaka tribute by Burl Burlingame: http://archives.starbulletin.com/1997/03/17/features/story1.html Beyond The Reef, Words & Music by Jack Pitman Where the sea is dark and cold, My love has gone, And our dreams grow old. On the 19th of Ramadan month of the year 40 A.H, Imam Ali (A.S.) came to the mosque in Kufa for his morning prayers. Imam mysteriously desired his sons Hassan (A.S.) and Hussain (A.S.) to offer their morning prayers in the house and not to accompany him as they usually did to the mosque. Imam Ali (A.S.) gave the call for prayer (Azaan) and became engaged in leading the congregation. Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam, pretending to pray, stood just behind Imam Ali (A.S.). As the Imam(A.S.) was leading the prayers, while in the 2nd sajdah, the killer got up and quickly removed the poisonous sword hitting the Imam on his head with a big blow and the Imam (A.S.) said in a loud voice: I SWEAR BY THE LORD OF KABAH , I HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL Gabriel shouted from the heavens: Wallahi Tahaddamat Arkaanil Hodaa. The murderer was caught and brought before him. When Imam Ali (A.S.) saw that the ropes with which his murderer was tied were cutting into his flesh, he forgot his own agony, and requested that he be untied and treated more humanely. Touched by these words the murderer started to weep. A smile played on Imam Ali's (A.S.) lips and in a faint voice he said, "It is too late to repent now, you have done your deed. Was I a bad Imam or an unkind Ruler?" He expressly ordered that no harshness should be shown towards his murderer. He should not be tortured before his execution and should be despatched only with one blow of sword. His body should not be mutilated, and members of his family should not be made to suffer on account of his crime and his property should not be confiscated. Alis (A.S.) justice was always tempered with mercy, even to the worst of his own enemies. Imam Ali (A.S.) was taken home from the mosque, and lay mortally wounded, yet he was answering all questions put to him. His sons Hassan (A.S.) and Hussain (A.S.) were given the last advice, and finally Ali told them that his coffin was to be lifted only from behind, as the front would of itself be automatically carried, and they would have to take the route guided by the coffin itself. At the place where the coffin would stop, they would find a grave already dug for him.The coffin stopped at Najaf, which is about four miles from Kufa. Imam Ali (A.S) breathed his last on 21st Ramazan, 40 A.H. Imam (A.S.) also requested his sons that he should be buried secretly, because he feared that his enemies would desecrate his grave.

-EDIT- There other night I was having a strange dream, but I could rememebr that I was in a world with a dark blue and green sky, and everything was glittery and beauitful, suddenly a stage popped up out of no where, with a crowd of people watching and cheering. I tried to watch carefully at who was on stage and long behold it was Ray Bolger, dancing along. He was maybe around his mid 30s. He spotted me and shuffled down the stage stairs and grabbed my hand pulling me up with him. He began to slow dance with me and he whispered, "Your a lovely dancer, do you happen to know any of my dance routines?" I replyed with, "The Harvey Girl's one." Now some of you know, Harvey Girl's was not made until he was around his 40s but thats beside the point, anyway. He spun me around and he began to do the dance, then he pointed to me and I had to dance the rest of it. When I finished everyone clapped including him. He gave me a hug and told me I did better than him. Then I woke up. It was really a lovely dream. I had to write it in here. -END EDIT- Ray Bolger is one of my greatest heros. I've loved him since I was a little girl. His talent is amazing, and I enjoy watching him. I appreciate his work like so many other from his time. I made this because there were zero Ray Bolger Tribute videos, and I thought this was a good opportunity to show my fandom. Most people my age only know him from the Wizard of Oz as The Scarecrow, but there are so many other things he was featured in. I also think who ever has danced, acted, met or knew him at all, is a lucky person. I would give anything to have known him. Information Found Below At: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=1528 Original name: Raymond Wallace Bulcao Birth: Jan. 10, 1904 Death: Jan. 15, 1987 Actor. Born Raymond Wallace Bulcao in Dorchester, Massachusetts, son of James, a house painter, and Anne. In 1922 he made his stage debut with the Bob Ott Musical Comedy Repertory Company in Boston. He then moved to Vaudeville where he was half of a team called Sanford and Bolger. In 1926, he was spotted by vaudeville legend and star maker, Gus Edwards who hired him for the Broadway show 'A Merry World.' Numerous Broadway roles followed including the lead in the Rodgers and Hart 1936 classic 'On Your Toes.' The strength of that performance earned him a movie contract from MGM. His feature film debut was as himself in the film 'The Great Ziegfeld' in 1936. He was then cast in 'Rosalie' in 1937, and 'Sweethearts' in 1938. In 1939 he was assigned to the role of Tin Man in the production of 'The Wizard of Oz.' Dismayed at the limited mobility of the character, Bolger convinced producer Mervyn LeRoy to allow him to switch roles and play the Scarecrow. It was to become the role that he is most associated with. Surprisingly, MGM did not re-sign Bolger after the success of Oz, and he went to work for RKO where he starred in two films; 1941's 'Four Jacks and a Jill' and 'Sunny' before returning to Broadway to appear in Rodgers and Hart's 'By Jupiter.' From 1943 to 1945 he toured with the USO before returning to Hollywood to appear in 'Stage Door Canteen.' He reunited with co-star Judy Garland for 1946's 'The Harvey Girls.' In 1949 he returned to Broadway where he starred in 'Where's Charley?' for which he won a Tony Award as Best Actor. He recreated the role in the film version of the play in 1952 preserving his performance of 'Once in Love with Amy' which became his signature song. In 1953 he tried television starring in the sitcom, 'Where's Raymond?' which was later renamed 'The Ray Bolger Show, it ran until 1955. After a 1962 return to Broadway in 'All American,' for which he was nominated for a Tony Award, suitable roles became difficult to find. He did earn an Emmy nomination for his performance in 'The Entertainer' in 1976 and weathered hip surgery in 1984, after which he kept busy with work in retrospectives and guest roles on television including appearances in 'Love Boat,' 'Battlestar Galactica,' 'Little House on the Prairie,' and 'Fantasy Island.' Bolger succumbed to cancer in Los Angeles five days after his 83rd birthday attended by Gwendolyn Rickard, his wife of 60 years. He has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6764 Hollywood Blvd. for movies and at 6834 Hollywood Blvd. for television. To the assassin this is a routine to assasinate JFK. Now the bit is up to get a confirm kill the mission is now nuclear insured. JFK with half his head blown off is trying to get back up technicaly dead but it worries him that if JFK gets up he well start hollering assassination failed Drop the bomb drop the bomb kill them all. The assassin only oh 7 years old his description if any one has a picture from those days I would like to see it. 7 year old Assassin wearing green 25th U.S infantry paratrooper helmet, KGB brown uniform with Hammer and Cycle symbols on collar and a red star in right hand hip pocket. Blue eyes brown hair and tan. If you find any pictures of this person there that day please send me a copie. . This was not his only method of assassination. Prior to this Dallas Turkey shoot he contacted Marilyn Monroe who was on to his identity too. He put together a birthday party to throw some heat on his origin he was not a natural born. Marilyn Monroe sang a short song as we all know Happy Birthday Mr. President after she got threw singing she went on to tell about him with a lot of drama from Marilyn laying it on heavy that the President is a big Tarantula spider this is very frighting to think he can rule over all us human people so on so forth. The assassin waiting near the curtains worried he might get up and slash her to death in public she was very revealing of him. The assassin then walk over to his table wearing a wizard disguise and a wand he cast his spill threw some genetically selective amphibian pesticide on the President the President soon went into deep croaking sounds returning to his amphibian counter part clone and hop away to find a grave to lay in. The assassin in Dallas when a police dispatcher was giving the assassin description over the radio said suspect assassin age 7 years old. On the side of the radio question repeated it 37 years old? Radio reply oh 7 years old. Radio officer 107 years old? Officer radio negative that is oh oh 7 years old repeat double OO7. Can this assassin be a secret legend????? Later on that day the whole town going out on clone sub accustics memories failing the Assassin meets with a desk police office. Female police office say he is really good at poetry. The police memories are being so repress by the clone electronics that they wan to try and hold on the police want to take away the assassins name and give him a number the number zero and have Harvey modle the number as not to forget. The police officer tells the assassin we are going to do a duet. I'll go first. There is a man who lives the life of danger. The police officer tells him every time we have ever heard of you it has been extrem danger. Every one he meets he stays a stranger Policeman ask now whats your side of the story for the song assassin tight lip hesitant every move he makes another chance he takes. Policeman odds are you wont live to see tomorrow. So the secret agent song was created by the assasin and the poetic cop the assassin calls Hollywood for TV series they paranoid decline the assasin calls the UK they eagerly accept the theme song for a TV series to keep people reminding them selves of the phantom memory fien JFK Administration.

================================ Richard Addinsell Warsaw Concerto for piano & orchestra (for the film "Dangerous Moonlight"/"Suicide Squadron") Pro Arte Orchestra/Charles Mackerras David Haines, piano. ================================ Related information: Warsaw Concerto for piano & orchestra (for the film "Dangerous Moonlight"/"Suicide Squadron") Composition Description by Blair Johnston Sometimes a piece of music appears at just the right time and in just the right context to become an indelible part of peoples' experience and memories. So it was with Richard Addinsell's Warsaw Concerto for piano and orchestra ? a pastiche of the quintessential romantic piano concerto, composed for use in the 1941 British film Dangerous Moonlight, in which a Polish pianist finds himself caught up in the Battle of Britain. The original idea of the filmmakers (one of whom, Terence Young, would go on to direct three out of the first four James Bond films) was reportedly to use Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 18 as the musical centerpiece of the film, but that idea was ultimately dropped in favor of commissioning a new, Rachmaninov-like piece from Addinsell and orchestrator Roy Douglas. The music of the Warsaw Concerto is used in the film both as incidental music and as the subject of a performance in the film (a concert worked into the plot); it fills and surrounds each moment, its passion and nostalgia (it was modeled on Rachmaninov, after all) movingly at odds with the horrific reality of life in Britain in 1941. Not at all surprisingly, audiences embraced the Concerto, which soon appeared on record and in sheet music adaptations and arrangements. The Warsaw Concerto is not a full concerto in the usual sense of the word; it is in one movement only and lasts under ten minutes. The opening is certainly dramatic enough; the piano enters with a gusto matched perhaps only by the Grieg Piano Concerto's opening plunge; tympani alone supports this first gasp. A deliciously syrupy second theme ? a melody once famous and instantly recognized around the globe ? is pure Rachmaninov (its cadence-moment is borrowed straight from the Piano Concerto No. 2), but one should not think any less of Addinsell's effort for its unabashed stylistic borrowings. The effort is supremely skillful, the music graceful, and not overly self-indulgent; it is worth noting that many similar pastiches that appeared in films and on discs over the course of the next two decades have all been basically forgotten, leaving Addinsell's Warsaw Concerto to mark the genre. It helps to remember how desperately the suffering Britons needed a warmth like Rachmaninov's, even as diffused through another composer, in 1941. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=42:40654~T1 Birth: Jan. 13, 1904 Death: Nov. 15, 1977 London, England Composer. He is known chiefly for his movie music. Addinsell's "Warsaw Concerto" for piano and orchestra, written for the film "Dangerous Moonlight" (1941), has enjoyed independent life as a concert piece. As so often happens with composers and their most popular works, he didn't think highly of it. His other movie credits include "Fire Over England" (1937), "Goodbye, Mr. Chips" (1939), "Gaslight" (1940), "A Diary for Timothy" (1945), "Blithe Spirit" (1945), "Under Capricorn" (1949), "A Christmas Carol" (aka "Scrooge", 1951), "The Prince and the Showgirl" (1957), "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone" (1961), "Waltz of the Toreadors" (1962), and "Life at the Top" (1965). Addinsell was born in London and studied at the Royal Academy of Music. He acquired film scoring technique while working at RKO studios in Hollywood from 1932 to 1935. Outside of the cinema he was noted as the accompanist of stage comedienne Joyce Grenfell, and wrote many songs for her. Just a little project especially for Memorial Day weekend. Some old family photos are included, plus some photos from http://www.free-stock-photos.com and two family photos from http://www.findagrave.com . The picture of the American Cemetery in Luxembourg is from the Department of Defense; the famous picture of the sailor kissing a nurse on V-J Day was taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt for LIFE Magazine. (Both these photos are now in the public domain.) The church photo toward the end was taken at an Easter Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in my city. All the other pictures are from a family collection. The music is "Hymn to the Fallen" from SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, produced by S. Spielberg and (c) 1998 by Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks. Music label is by Dreamworks. No copyright infringement intended, but music track will be removed upon request.
