6. Maximo Park - A Year Of Doubt
by rss@youtube.com (doddy910)
5 Sep 2008 at 3:29am

I wait behind the factory gates, For you to finish off your shift, Irate because your losing faith, Fortune is said to favour the brave. Are you bored or are you blind? Beware the contents of your mind I wait to find a different race, If so then I will not compete, My pain is worth no more than yours, In time we'll give up on ourselves. A simple life is not an option, Try to define the word satisfaction I wait behind the factory gates, For you to finish off your shift. Solitary confinement never sounded so good, You said you were speechless, God I wish you were. Too late to gather in the sails, Commit, or face a year of doubt, Stand up to what we both despise, In spite we find a friend. It never pays to be complacent Nature will always choose a replacement. I wait behind the factory gates, For you to finish off your shift, Irate because your losing faith, Fortune is said to favour the brave. I wait behind the factory gates, For you to finish off your shift. Solitary confinement never sounded so good, You said you were speechless, God I wish you were. I wait behind the factory gates, For you to finish off your shift, I wait behind the factory gates.

Billy Joel - "Honesty"
by rss@youtube.com (mission2marsden)
2 Sep 2008 at 3:10pm

Honesty by Billy Joel (lyrics below) (C) 1978 SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT If you search for tenderness it isn't hard to find. You can have the love you need to live. But if you look for truthfulness You might just as well be blind. It always seems to be so hard to give. Honesty is such a lonely word. Everyone is so untrue. Honesty is hardly ever heard. And mostly what I need from you. I can always find someone to say they sympathize. If I wear my heart out on my sleeve. But I don't want some pretty face to tell me pretty lies. All I want is someone to believe. Honesty is such a lonely word. Everyone is so untrue. Honesty is hardly ever heard. And mostly what I need from you. I can find a lover. I can find a friend. I can have security until the bitter end. Anyone can comfort me with promises again. I know, I know. When I'm deep inside of me don't be too concerned. I won't as for nothin' while I'm gone. But when I want sincerity tell me where else can I turn. Because you're the one I depend upon. Honesty is such a lonely word. Everyone is so untrue. Honesty is hardly ever heard. And mostly what I need from you.

Sting - Never Coming Home
by rss@youtube.com (000mario000dsas)
2 Sep 2008 at 1:24pm

Never coming home Well it's five in the morning and the light's already broken And the rainy streets are empty for nobody else has woken Yet you turn towards the window as he sleeps beneath the covers And you wonder what he's dreaming in his slumbers There's a clock upon the table and it's burning up the hour And you feel your life is shrinking like the petals of a flower As you creep towards the closet you're so careful not to wake him And you choose the cotton dress you bought last summer There's a time of indecision between the bedroom and the door But the part of you that knows that you can't take it any more There's the promise of the future in the creaking of the floor And you're torn if you should leave him with a number And in your imagination you're a thousand miles away Because too many of his promises got broken on the way So you write it in a letter all the things you couldn't say And you tell him that you're never coming home She starts running for the railway station praying that her calculation's right And there's a train just waiting there to get her to the city before night A place to sleep a place to stay will get her through another day She'll take a job she'll find a friend she'll make a life that's better The passengers ignore her just a girl with an umbrella And there's nothing they can do for her, there's nothing they can tell her There's nothing they could ever say would change the way she feels today She'd live the life she'd always dreamed if he had only let her Now in her imagination she's a million miles away When too many of his promises got broken on the way So she wrote it in a letter all the things she couldn't say And she told him she was never coming home She told him she was never coming home I wake up in an empty bed a road drill hammers in my head I call her name there's no reply it's not like her to let me lie It's time for work it's time to go but something's different I don't know I need a cup of coffee I'll feel better I stumble to the bathroom door, her make up bag is on the floor It really is a mess this place it takes some time to shave my face I'm not really thinking straight she never lets me sleep this late I'm almost done and then I see the letter In his imagination she's a universe away Too many of his promises got broken on the way So she wrote it in a letter all things she couldn't say And she told him she was never coming home, She told him she was never coming home, She told him she was never coming home I'm gonna live my life And she told him she was never coming home I'm gonna live my life in my own way Lyrics: www. sting.com

Hey Nikita is it cold In your little corner of the world You could roll around the globe And never find a warmer soul to know Oh I saw you by the wall Ten of your tin soldiers in a row With eyes that looked like ice on fire The human heart a captive in the snow Oh Nikita You will never know anything about my home I'll never know how good it feels to hold you Nikita I need you so Oh Nikita is the other side of any given line in time Counting ten tin soldiers in a row Oh no, Nikita you'll never know Do you ever dream of me Do you ever see the letters that I write When you look up through the wire Nikita do you count the stars at night And if there comes a time Guns and gates no longer hold you in And if you're free to make a choice Just look towards the west and find a friend

Jam - Strange town 1979 Found myself in a strange town Though I've only been here for three weeks now I've got blisters on my feet Trying find a friend in Oxford Street I bought an A to Z guide book Trying to find the clubs and YMCAs But when you ask in a strange town They say don't know, don't care And I've got to go, mate They worry themselves about feeling low They worry themselves about the dreadful snow They all ignore me 'cause they don't know Am I really a spaceman from those UFOs You've got to move in a straight line You've got to walk and talk in four four time You can't be weird in a strange town You'll be betrayed by your accent and manners You've got to wear the right clothes Be careful not to pick or scratch your nose You can't be nice in a strange town 'Cause we don't know, don't care And we got to go, man Rush my money to the record shops I stop off in a back street Buy myself a snort We got our own manifesto Be kind to queers And I'm so glad the revolution's here It's nice and warm now! (Instrumental) I've finished with clubs where the music's loud 'Cause I don't see a face in a single crowd There's no one there I look in the mirror But I can't be seen Just a thin, clean layer of Mister Sheen Looking back at me Oh, oh (Instrumental) Found myself in a strange town Though I've only been here for three weeks now I've got blisters on my feet Trying find a friend in Oxford Street I bought an A to Z guide book Trying to find the clubs and YMCAs When you ask in a strange town They say don't know, don't care And I've got to go, mate They worry themselves about feeling low They worry themselves about the dreadful snow They all ignore me 'cause they don't know Am I really a spaceman from those UFOs (Instrumental) Strange town Break it up Baby don't shake it up Break it up Break it up Break it up Break it up Break it up Break it up Break it up Break it up shake it up Break it up Break it up

Island (original song)
by rss@youtube.com (tmfset)
18 Aug 2008 at 7:13pm

This is a song I wrote called "Island". Sorry about the lack of synchronization. Also my singing is a little off due to lack of practice(or at least thats what I'm telling myself). Lyrics: water rushes in to fill the spaces I had kept within to keep the cold out and the fires lit to keep me breathing well this is what you get for believing the island up ahead i can see clearly but the words she never said still ring freely echoing in my head at least I'm breathing well this is what you get for believing I just want to know what she thinks of me and I just want to know how it's supposed to be and I will sink below oh this sordid sea and I will sink below long before they save me save me from this end i'll be happier once I find a friend i'll forget her and everything she did to stop me breathing well this is what I get for believing I just want to know what she thinks of me and I just want to know how it's supposed to be and I will sink below oh this sordid sea and I will sink below long before they save me oh where did my island go oh where did my island go where is it when you need it the most

It's So Much Work to Be Your Friend: Helping the Child with Learning Disabili...
by Richard Lavoie
Amazon Price: $5.99
Customer Review: As a developmental and behavioral pediatrician, I have spent a great deal of time working with children like Rick Lavoie talks about in his book. These children want to have friends and want to be good friends to others. They struggle to understand the social underpinnings, however, which leads to misunderstandings and sorrow from losing friends, or not even beginning to make a friend. This book looks at the neurodevelopmental issues that these children face, provding the adults who live and work with them more insight into their struggles. He basically is challenging us to step back and decipher what the child's intent was in a situation, rather than just jump to conclusions that frequently are very negative toward the child.

Whether the child has ADHD, learning disabilities, Asperger Syndrome, or some other disability/disorder, taking time to understand why the child's attempts at social interaction is not working, and developing a plan of intervention and accommodation based on that understanding is what will make a positive difference. I think that all parents, teachers, and other professionals who work or live with these children should read this book.

Good Friends Are Hard to Find: Help Your Child Find, Make, and Keep Friends
by Fred Frankel, Barry Wetmore
Amazon Price: $11.16
Customer Review: I got this book with great anticipation, having read a recommendation of it in a parenting magazine; but it did not quite meet my expectations. Frankel is very up front with his approach, emphasizing the importance of children's one-on-one play dates as a foundation for friendships. While he makes some good points, I think his approach is somewhat narrow and simplistic. There are many ways to make friends and many kinds of friendships to have; play dates are not the be-all and end-all of friendship.

I also found some of Frankel's sample dialogues (e.g. how parent can tell child to play well) somewhat condescending; I think most parents can figure out for themselves what words to use when encouraging their child. And some of Frankel's "rules" seem odd to me: e.g. he says that if girls are playing with a toy and another girl approaches, she needs to ask the girl who owns the toy if it's ok if she plays with them -- and this supposedly does not apply to boys. Frankel provides no evidence for this alleged difference; he simply states it as fact.

I was hoping this book would have more information about kids' friendships in general and about differences between children at various ages etc. It's interesting as a simple how-to manual but not particularly informative beyond that.

The Soul of Education: Helping Students Find Connection, Compassion, and Char...
by Rachael Kessler
Amazon Price: $19.16
Customer Review: This book triggered angry feelings for me. I wished I had a teacher like Rachael Kessler when I was growing up. Indeed, so few young people do. I caught myself recollecting my teen years, when I asked the very same questions the youth explore in the "Council"-an integral part of the Passages program described in the book. The youth in my generation had no Council for raising these questions; no safe place to tell stories, reveal the mystical, ponder meaning, or explore differences. Yet, as I later learned in my undergraduate studies in philosophy, it is the exploration of precisely these questions that provides the insight, sensitivity, empathy, and wisdom that open the inner self to the path of a civil society and a meaningful life. This is the forerunner of virtue. A few examples from Rachael's book will illustrate the type of universal questions I mean:

Why do I feel scared and confused about becoming an adult? What does it mean to accept that this is my life and I have responsibility for it?

How do I know I am normal? What is normal?

Why do people hate others-blacks, whites, Hispanics, etc.?

What is our purpose in life?

Why do people tire of life?

How does one determine one's sexuality? Are there symptoms? Is it a decision or a natural "given"-are you stuck with it or is there a choice?

Why are people so cold in taking care of the planet?

How come people kill other people?

Where do we go when we die?

This is but a sample of a myriad of questions that young people explore in the Council in the search of the inner self and the connection to the outer world.

Spirituality is a basic ingredient to our humanity with multiple domains and forms of expression, of which formal religion is but one. This book lays out an excellent discussion regarding the education of the soul: why it is needed in public schools and exactly how to teach it without violating the First Amendment or stomping on the toes of organized religious groups. In fact, any thoughtful review of this book will reveal that the type of spiritual development Rachael is proposing is "simpatico" with most organized religions. Further, and this is a critical point, she emphasizes the emptiness and frustration in individuals that results from spiritual paucity, and how this fact may lead to severe consequences for youth and community. In this discussion the author makes a connection between youth devoid of positive spirituality and acts of violenc...

Disney/Pixer Friends & Heroes (First Look and Find)
by Michael P. Fertig
Amazon Price: $7.98
Customer Review: Anything that can keep my 2 year-old son's interest for long periods of time and for several months is a winner in my book!

This book has pages for: Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Monster's Inc, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, The Incredibles and Cars. It is very high quality with a cushioned cardboard cover and nice thick board book pages, so it has been durable and stood up to my son's "tough love."

My son will sit and find all items in the whole book. Several months later he still brings it to us to do with him. He quickly learned the point and can identify all items, and still loves it. There are advanced activities that are great and we are just starting them.

I reccommend this book, you will love the big bright pages, super quality and your child will love this activity around characters and stories they already know. The price is absolutely on for the quality of these books.
