ZHANG: Moving on to Japan, where over 800 companies got to showcase their latest high-tech electronics, gadgets, and robots at an annual show in Tokyo. Let's take a look at what's turning heads. STORY: One of the most popular attractions is a robot named "Murata Girl, which is capable of riding a bicycle and a unicycle. With several positioning, motion, and shock control sensors attached to its body, the robot is capable of detecting obstacles while balancing on its own. [Shigeki Fukunaga, Robot Engineer]: "Technology and idea-wise it's simple because we just had to program the robot to balance back and forth instead sideways like we did with the bicycle-riding robot." Fukunaga says his company, Murata Manufacturing, hopes to implement the robot's technology into various electronics and vehicles in the future. They are looking to create a bicycle that never falls down and automobiles that can avoid accidents. Nissan Motors introduced their "Biomimetic Robot 23 Car," which carries various obstacle-detection and prevention sensors. [Toshiyuki Ando, Nissan Motors]: "Once it detects an obstacle, it automatically avoids it according to its speed, direction and distance, which is something we've adapted from bee's behaviors." Pioneer, the manufacturer of car stereos, plasma televisions and home theatre systems, also received a lot of attention. Their three-dimensional display called the "3D Floating Vision" is capable of reflecting all kinds of floating images that can be seen without using special three-dimensional eye glasses. Using this technology, a cell phone user can now physically scoop coupons displayed on screen with their cell phone and receive information at the same time. [Toshiyuki Andoh, Floating Vision Director]: "We've placed an infrared sensor around the floating images. It detects the cell phone when it hits the image and sends out the matched information from a computer via wireless LAN. That's how you receive coupons on your cell phone." The show expects to attract more than 200-thousand visitors over the next five days.

Customer Review: I do not know about the first edition, but this second edition has been thoroughly messed up in production. The map with the reviewed campgrounds marked and numbered is missing a section about an inch wide all the way down the middle (i.e. cut off by binding margins), and a number of sites are lost to the void. Secondly, unlike other Best in Tent Camping editions, the camp ground profile pages themselves are not keyed to the map's numbering system, so if you are looking at the map, you must then look the map number up in the index to find the page number for the campground profile. Then, to make matters worse, all the page numbers on the key page are off by a page or two (correct in table of contents but no map keys there).
To make it usable, first go through and number all the profiles to key them to the map by hand. Then go to the map and add the number "13" to the cutoff triangle under ROANOKE (ROA[...] on map). If I can sort out where numbers 35, 37 and 39 are, I will edit this post to add that information (unfortunately, unlike others in the series, there are no GPS coordinates in this one).
Otherwise, the Best in Tent Camping series is a unique and useful resource.

Customer Review: I bought this book last year, a few short weeks before our annual camping trip - this time to New England - because the free AAA campground "guides" we used the year prior were awful and featured mostly sites catering to RVs.
I must say, we found the reviews in the book very helpful, and it did lead us to some wonderful spots in campgrounds we might not have otherwised discovered. However, having only learned about these great destinations a month before our trip prevented us from securing some of the most beautiful spots. My recommendation, therefore, is to plan ahead, far, far in advance, if you want to experience the best sites New England has to offer. Otherwise, you will arrive only to find out the spot you want has been booked.

Customer Review: A lot of the information in the book can be obtained elswhere, however, the author makes reccomendations to particular sites and desirable areas in the campground, which I have found to be very helpful and accurate. These recommendations make the book priceless. There's nothing worse than reserving a campsite, and then finding out has no shade or has other issues.

Customer Review: At the time of this review I had only visited one site so far listed in the book. I'm not sure when the author updated this book, but when we visited Three Creeks Campground near Sisters in late Sept 2007 (we purposely waited until after Labor Day/School was in session to hopefull avoid the crowds) it was full of exactly what she said it DIDN'T have. Not only was it jam-packed, but RVs and campers outweighed tents (I think there was two, and we were one of them). There were kids running around yelling and screaming and the RV/Campers were always firing up their generators for hours on end. These were the things we were trying to avoid.
I'm not discounting this book yet and will try other sites. My other camping experiences over the summer have resulted in the same crowding, noise, etc. Perhaps the camping of old where you find peace and tranquility is no longer to be found.

Customer Review: I ordered this hoping that some basic questions would be answered, and many were, but this book is outdated. For example: Nowadays, the most common good quality car system uses a pair of component speakers, sometimes called "splits" plus a sub woofer. You wouldn't know it from reading this book though.
Tuning your system? Doesn't even mention how to do this.
Troubleshooting chapter? Nope.
This book is pretty much all there is out there, and it will help with understanding many important things, esp if you are a complete novice. But because it is outdated, you will come away with some ideas that are not longer valid or important in helping you put together a system. You will need to supplement what you read here with info from other places.
It is not a complete waste of your money, but if I were this author I would write a newer version, and pronto, and cover the sorts of issues people are bringing up on the car audio forums, where I have learned much more than what is given in this book. There is a real need for a good book on the subject.
