www.kbb.com It wasn't so long ago that people cringed when confronted with the fashion of the 1970's. But with the Disco Decade nearly 40 years in the rearview mirror, the era is experiencing its inevitable irony-driven comeback. So when the Dodge Grand Caravan joined Kelley Blue Book's long-term test fleet it was greeted with a bit more enthusiasm than one might expect of a minivan. That enthusiasm, due largely to a wealth of optional equipment, also reflected the hope that the Dodge Grand Caravan might act as a portal to another time when custom vans were for the cool kids and not just angry loners. Sure the Grand Caravan does a fine job hauling children to ballet or grow-mulch home from the store, but it performs equally well as an impromptu lounge or for blasting Lynyrd Skynyrd while cruising down the highway with your old lady. Can modern minivans offer enough retro-fabulous mojo to fill the void left by the custom van fad of the 1970's? It's a question that deserves an answer and one which kbb.com's Micah Muzio explores in the following video. For more new car reviews, interviews and automotive news visit kbb.com today.

www.kbb.com Big SUVs have seen a decline in popularity and many people are turning to smaller, car-based SUVs, or crossovers, because of their utility and gas mileage. This change has not gone unnoticed by Infiniti, who released its Infiniti EX35 in 2007. A luxury crossover marketed toward empty-nesters, couples and small families, the Infiniti EX35 doesn't skimp on comfort or premium features. Leather seats, Bose sound and a host of convenience options are sure to please drivers and passengers alike. Plus a host of safety gadgets, such as an Around View Monitor and Lane Departure Prevention System, keep the EX35 out of harm's way and have the added bonus of being pretty cool and fun to use. We sat down with Toby Perry, Infiniti's Senior Manager of Model Line Marketing and discussed the Infiniti EX35's design, utility and road-trip worthiness. www.kbb.com When the Infiniti EX35 debuted at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, the vehicle's available advanced safety systems - Lane Departure Prevention and Around View Monitor - certainly turned a lot of heads. Why? Well, when equipped with both, the EX35 enables to driver to know where their car is situated both on the road and in the parking lot. This means that distracted drivers will be less likely to wander in and out of lanes, and those confronted with a tight parking space will be able to see what surrounds them without ever leaving their car. Although similar systems are already on the market, no other automaker's are quite as advanced as Infiniti's. Intrigued? To give you a better idea of how the Lane Departure Prevention and Around View Monitor systems work, we've asked Bob Yakushi, the director of product safety for both Infiniti and Nissan, to explain to us how they can help make the EX35 a safer car, both on the open road and closer to home. www.kbb.com The Chevrolet Volt is the first vehicle of GM's second century. That's how GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner presented it, anyway, at a 100th birthday celebration the automaker was throwing for itself. The highly anticipated unveiling of the production Volt revealed a car that's not styled as aggressively as the concept version, but one the company says lives up to the original promise of delivering 40 miles of range on electricity alone. Describing it as an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle, or E-REV, the Volt features 220 lithium-ion cells that can be fully charged in eight hours with a standard 120-volt outlet or three hours using a 240-volt outlet, at a cost of about 80 cents, according to GM. When the battery's energy is depleted, a gasoline-powered generator simultaneously powers the drive unit and charges the battery, extending range by "several hundred" miles. With the help of an equivalent 150 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of instant torque, GM claims the Volt will reach a top speed of 100 miles per hour. Pending "satisfactory government incentives," production is scheduled to begin late 2010. Kelley Blue Book's Jack Nerad interviews General Motor's Beth Lowery on the Volt, energy diversity and GM's environmental policy.
