Used Car Buying Guide 2008 (Consumer Reports Used Car Buying Guide) by Editors of Consumer Reports Amazon Price: $9.99
Customer Review: This book is such a great resource for buying a used car. Especially the real world MPG and reliability ratings. I'll never start research to buy another car without it.

Buying a Car for Dummies by Deanna Sclar Amazon Price: $11.55
Customer Review: If you have no idea what a radiator is, nevermind where it is, or you don't know the first thing about leasing or financing a car, this book is for you.
I will admit that I know nothing about cars. I can't tell you the first thing about MPG's. So I knew that as I began my car searching, I needed a little help so that I wouldn't get completely owned by dealers. Enter "Buying a Car for dummies" (aka me). It introduced the lingo to me. What particulars I needed to look for when looking for my car. It weighed the pros and cons for me of getting a new car versus buying a used car. It basically empowered me to know what I was looking for, how I would look for it, and gave me the tools to best make my decision and at a price that I was satisfied with.
The book was published in 1998. Minus factual data (Enterprise isn't the only rental car dealership that sells used cars) and take into account how internet wired our population is 95% of this book still holds true today. I bought it for 26cents and it has been my best buy on Amazon to date.

Car Buyer's and Leaser's Negotiating Bible, Third Edition (Car Buyer's & Leas... by William Bragg Amazon Price: $11.53
Customer Review: After reading this book and doing what it said, I saved over $4,000 on my new Camry. If you're looking for a new (or even used) car, this book will teach you what discounts the dealers receive, what the kickbacks are, what you should expect to pay for your new car and how to get the best deal possible. The book will teach you how to pit the dealers against each other and give you the upper hand when it comes to negotiating. No more sitting in a dealership for hours while they play their waiting games, no more high-pressure sales, no more haggling. The "fax attack" portion of the book tells you where to get the information about your car, how to present your deal, and who to fax your information to. It's that simple. With just a little research on your part, you can make a really great deal. Simply put, do the research, create your fax, send to the dealers in your area (the more the better), wait for the phone to start ringing with great offers on the car that you want. Take the lowest offer and call the dealers who will, in turn, try to beat the offer. Do this until all of them are done bidding. Go pick up your car.
BMW Buyer's Guide by Fred Larimer Amazon Price: $23.35
Customer Review: Informative text. Before buying a used BMW, buy this book. Especially useful in talking to sellers over the phone. Use the information on each model to get the seller talking about what repairs and maintenence have been performed. It will put you in the driver's seat during negotiations.
You and Your New Mini: Buying, enjoying, maintaining, modifying (You and Your) by Tim Mundy Amazon Price: $19.77
Customer Review: After buying a used 2004 Mini and being a do-it yourselfer I thought this book would have more on maintaining the Mini. It really doesn't give much more than the owners manual. I was hoping for more trouble shooting, but then Bentley's Service manual doesn't either.
You & Your Jaguar XK8: Buying,Enjoying,Maintaining,Modifying (You and Your) by Nigel Thorley Amazon Price: $19.77

Customer Review: Purchased a clean Plymouth Breeze for my son after his HS graduation. Spent a day at the used car lots and having this baby in my hip pocket was invaluable. Some of the asking prices from the used car con artists were a joke. I purchased the Breeze at top of Kelly Blue Book which was actually a good deal. I think low blue book is not a realistic value.
